What I am thankful for is….

Being Literate and Having Access to Books.
I am thankful for these because I enjoy reading and writing immensely. I think of reading as way to escape the real world and be imaginative and writing is a way to express oneself through ways others can understand and enjoy too.
I am Thankful for Music.
Without music, the world would be completely different. Music helps define what a culture and a person are. To me music amazing, it helps me relax, if it is classical it can help me concentrate, music can brighten my mood, and much more. Without music, everything would be dull and lifeless.
Of Course, I am Thankful for My Family!
Without my family, I would be nothing. My mom is more than just my mother, she is my best friend and gives great advice and is a amazing woman; my dad is very helpful with my math home work and is great at cooking; my brother Tyler is goofy and can get a laugh out of anyone, and when he wants to, he can be nice. My family influenced my personality greatly and I am thankful for this. My family may be dysfunctional and odd, but for the most part, we get along well and are nice, caring people.

Today’s Technologies are something I am Thankful for.
I cannot imagine how people of the modern world “survive” without their cell phones, computers, iPods, and so on. These may only be objects but they come in handy for many uses including communication, entertainment, information, ECT. For example, I am typing this on my laptop while listening to my IPod. We seem to take technologies for granted and not appreciate how helpful and entertaining they can be.
I am Thankful for Being Able to Receive an Education.
With the education I have and will continue to receive, I can make a living and be independent unlike others who rarely catch a break in life without an education. I enjoy learning, and I think everyone deserves a proper education. I also like knowing I have earned what I have gotten and will get.
I am Thankful that I Have a Roof Over my Head.
I am fortunate to have a house, and I am privileged to live in such an exquisite and beautiful home. In today’s trying times many people are left homeless and I am grateful for not being a victim of a bad economy and many other factors. As my way of showing thanks, I respect my home and belongings. I also donate to the less fortunate.
I am Thankful for my Parents Having a Steady Income.
I am thankful for this because this satisfies our family’s needs and some of our wants. Together my parents provide an amazing life for my family and I am forever thankful to them for this. My family is privileged enough to get gifts on holidays and go shopping when wanted, and also my brother and I get an allowance which helps teach us to save out money and to not blow it on random objects.
I am Thankful for Living in a First Class County.
This is something to be thankful for because it means that our country is clean and has a thriving economy most of the time. In addition, it is part of the modern world, and it means we have indoor plumbing. Living in a first class country such as the U.S.A. means I have more opportunities in life to succeed and to have a better standard of living than in other countries.
I am Thankful for my Friends.
Without my friends, I do not know where I would be in life. They are great, interesting, bubbly people who encourage me to do my best, help me achieve my goals, and they cheer me up when I am down. Friends are an amazing gift that will always be there for you no matter what. My friends are the best anyone could ever ask for and for this, I am thankful.
I am Thankful for my Life.
It may seem like an obvious statement to make but I do love my life. Everyone can improve his or her life and I know I can too, but I am grateful for just being alive. Each day is like a gift to me and it is my responsibility to care for that gift and live it to the fullest.

Global Ed Blog

Old Friends, New Friends
Hey Chelsey, Tommy, Steph, Ciara, Casey; I said as I greeted my friends who I have known for several years. Today is like any other day I walk through the side doors of Stevenson High School, meet up with my friends, walk to each other’s lockers, and aimlessly wander around the halls until a few minutes before the final bell rings. Although these are not my only friends for there is more just I do not see them that time of the day, most of these friends are new friends including Patrick, Mackenzie, Brittney and Jenny. Together with my old and new friends, this year is going to great!

SHS Activities Attended
This year I have attended only a few SHS activities, but these include the Freshman Dance, Welcome Back Dance, the Homecoming game and dance, and a few of the football games. By the end of the year, I am hoping to have joined in some clubs and to have gone to a few more after school activities and have fun while doing these things.
Funniest, Weirdest, Scariest Moments
Ha ha ha! My fellow classmates and I busted out laughing in Mrs. Berjeski’s second hour class for Global Ed History. The cause of this laughter was when Mrs. B tried to bring down a map from the pullout set hanging on the blackboard. The maps fell down and she tried putting them up several times, and then two of her taller students had to help her and hang it up; it fell again! Eventually the maps were in their place, but it did not seem like they wanted to be there!
Lunchtime and sixth hour are when the fun happens. At lunch, my friends and I tell about what happened on the day before, our weird dreams, music, movies, books, and then some. For example, the other day I had I dream where a wolf was eating me and that led to all whole examination of my strange ludicrous dreams.
Another weird experience was in German class when we had to spell out German math problems on our partner’s backs and they had to guess what the answer was!

Hardest, Easiest Class and Assignments
Surprisingly for me Geometry has been the hardest class so far this year. Although the assignments and tests have been fairly easy, I am not doing as well as I could. This is because I find it hard to take tests, no matter how prepared I am for the test I panic and that is what makes me not do as well. Lately, I have been getting my B up because I am learning to cope with my fear. I would say my fifth hour is the easiest for it is Foods and Nutrition 1. Don’t get me wrong it is a good class to take because it teaches you important life skills like how to cook, clean, and entertain guests.
Top Five Current Events
Barack Obama’s election and swearing into his presidency, the war in Iraq, the nuclear weapons in North Korea and Iran, the recession the United States is currently experiencing, the outbreak of H1N1 aka the swine flu.

Faces in the News
Kanye West and Taylor Swift at the MTV awards, Michael Jackson for his death, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad the president of Iran, the president of Afghanistan, and many more people but there is too many to list.

Interesting New Words
This year I have learned several dozen new words. I have even started to notice the words in what I read and I will even use the words when I talk. Some words include aloof which means indifferent; also there is perturbed which means angry or frustrated, and there is many more.

Popular or memorable songs
This year has been full of memorable songs and new and seasoned artists. These songs include Poker Face by Lady Gaga, she is a newer artist in the industry; also this song is a favorite of my dad! Others include Single Ladies by Beyonce, this isn’t a favorite of mine but it is popular and many parodies have been made of it.
Popular or memorable movies
Many movies have come out this year and some have been great, while others have bombed. Some movies include Hannah Montana the Movie, Land of the Lost, which I thought was funny and it had been inspired by the show from the seventies. A few others included Fame a remake of the eighties musical, G.I. Joe, and Where the Wild Things Are the motion picture of the beloved children’s book.
Rumors or gossip
As always, there is gossip and rumors. Some of the major scandals include John and Kate’s marriage dissolved, Michael Jackson’s death, Lady Gaga being a hermaphrodite, and so much more!

Fads and trends
The Eighties are back! Skinny jeans, feather earrings, moccasins, skinny ties, jewel tones, plaid, and grunge are all very popular pieces of clothing and accessories this year. In fact, I know people who only own skinny jeans and no other types of jeans or pants!
First cultural event
For my first cultural event, I chose to do a creative display on The Renaissance Festival. The festival was an amazing inspiring event full of whimsical characters, costumes of every color and design, and anything medieval. I recommend going to the festival if you are one who likes to try new things and be a little kooky at times.
Homecoming
Homecoming was a great event to go attend. I had so much fun getting dressed up and dancing with my friends! At the game, it was cool to see all of the floats and see whom the honor of being Mr. Spartan and The Queen of Homecoming was awarded to. Although I did not have a very good time and left early because of the excessive rain and I could already tell we were going to win. In addition, you could still see the floats and Homecoming Court at the dance.
Advice for a freshman
For incoming freshman I advise to ask people questions if you need help finding your classes and locker, they won’t bite. Talk to people and make new friends and do not be afraid to sit with people you don’t know, they could become great friends with you. Pay attention, take notes, and stay on top of your homework, after all this is your first year and you do not want to mess up your GPA.
What I’m looking forward to…
I’m looking forward to going to more dances and joining clubs and after school activities. So far, I am having a good year and I am looking forward to the rest of my high school career.

Other noteworthy achievements or events
Homecoming was a noteworthy event for me because it was the first formal high school dance I have attended. I am also proud of my grades because I have gotten them up and have kept them up so now I have all A’s and one B.

Cultute, Culture, Culture

Culture, Culture, Culture

To me American culture is a diverse group of people living together in one nation. Americans are people who live in the United States of America and are legal citizens, who are patriotic, and stand up for their country and are proud of who and what they are. For many, America is a place to migrate to freedom and rights, but there are still laws and responsibilities. American culture is mainly a "me culture", where people like to be individuals rather than in groups. In recent history Americans have begun to develop into a "we culture". Americans are proving to be less insular and more towards the idea of togetherness by pulling together in the hard times the U.S.A. has been experiencing and becoming more dependent on others.
My own culture is diverse. My culture is Christian, American, English, Scottish, and Polish, and more. I am proud of my culture, and who and what I am. I am friends with people whose cultures differ from mine so we learn from each other. Since I am Christian some of my friends have not been in a Christian church before, but I am Presbyterian so I have only seen a few communions for my Catholic friends and family. I am Scottish and have been to the Scottish Festival but most people I know have not even heard of it. Everyone I know is American because I do not know anyone who lives outside of the country, but we are all not just American. I am English because that is the language I speak, write, and understand. I am learning German and I know people who are multilingual. I would say that my culture is more of a “me culture” because I like to finish projects before I hang out with my friends and family, although I do not mind being in a group or with a partner because I will need skills like that some day and I like being around people.
